Roof Replacement and Storm Damage Repair in Orem, Utah
If a storm has hit your Orem home or your roof is showing its age, start with a free inspection before you call your insurance company. King Roofing is based in Orem. We photograph and document what's on your roof, tell you plainly whether it needs repair or replacement, and, if you file a claim, we meet your adjuster.
Why Orem roofs take a beating
Orem sits right where Provo Canyon opens onto Utah Valley, with Mount Timpanogos and the Wasatch Front rising behind the east side of the city. That location shapes how roofs wear here:
- Canyon wind. Gusts that funnel out of Provo Canyon can catch shingle edges on east-side and foothill homes, lifting tabs and breaking the seal strip. Once a shingle's seal is broken, the next storm can peel it back.
- Spring and summer thunderstorms. Storm cells that build over the Wasatch and drift across Utah Valley can drop hail on one neighborhood and miss the next. Damage is often patchy, which is why a roof-level look matters more than a glance from the yard.
- Winter snow and freeze-thaw. Snow that sits on north-facing slopes, melts during the day, and refreezes at night works water under shingles and into flashing at chimneys, skylights, and valleys.
- High-altitude sun. Strong summer UV dries out asphalt shingles over time, so older roofs lose granules and crack sooner than homeowners expect.
Much of Orem's housing was built from the mid-century through the early 2000s, from older ranch homes near State Street to two-story homes up toward the foothills. Many of those roofs are on original or first-replacement shingles, which makes them more vulnerable when a storm does come through.
Signs your Orem roof may have storm damage
You don't need to climb a ladder to spot warning signs. From the ground, look for:
- Shingles, ridge caps, or pieces of shingle in the yard after a windstorm
- Dents on gutters, downspouts, window screens, or the metal vents on your roof
- Granules collecting at the bottom of downspouts
- Dents or spatter marks on a car, mailbox, grill lid, or fence after hail
- New water stains on ceilings, especially near exterior walls or the attic hatch
If you see any of these, schedule a free inspection. We'll get on the roof safely so you don't have to.
Repair or replacement: how we decide
Not every storm means a new roof. After the inspection, you get a photo-documented Free Roof Health Report with a straight answer: repair, rejuvenate, replace, or your roof is fine. If the damage is limited to a few shingles or one slope, a repair may be the right call. If damage is spread across the roof, the shingles are brittle, or the roof is near the end of its life, replacement usually makes more sense. You keep the report either way.
How the insurance claim process works in Orem
Homeowners insurance claims in Utah follow the same basic steps no matter which city you live in. We help you through the claim process from the first inspection to the final walkthrough:
- Free inspection first. We document the damage with photos so you know what's there before you decide whether to file.
- You file the claim. The policy is between you and your insurance company, so you open the claim. We can explain what we found so you can describe it clearly.
- We meet your adjuster. When the adjuster comes out, we can be on the roof with them to point out the damage we documented.
- Review the decision together. Your insurance company decides what's covered under your policy. We walk you through the scope they send so you understand it.
- Install and cleanup. If you move forward, our crew installs your new roof and cleans up the property, including a magnetic sweep for nails.
Your deductible is part of your policy and is your responsibility. We don't waive or cover deductibles.

Wind roof replacement in Orem: solar panels off and back on
This Orem roof came off down to the deck under a city re-roof permit. Before the tear-off, the 21 rooftop solar panels were detached, then reset on the new roof, and the old swamp cooler came off for good. The new roof is GAF Timberline® Natural Shadow shingles in Charcoal with matching GAF Seal-A-Ridge ridge cap, plus GAF WeatherWatch ice & water barrier added as a building-code item. A King Roofing rep was there for the adjuster's inspection.

Wind roof replacement in Orem: Barkwood shingles and a cleaner roofline
After wind damage, this Orem home got a full reroof: GAF Natural Shadow shingles in Barkwood with white drip edge, across 21 squares. Following the homeowner's instructions, the crew hauled away the old swamp cooler and a satellite dish before the new shingles went on, and patched the old cooler opening with new OSB decking. It carries a GAF System Plus Limited Warranty.

Wind and hail roof replacement in Orem: one half of a duplex
Only the west side of this Orem half duplex needed us after wind and hail, so the crew kept the reroof to that side of the building. They tore off one layer of old shingles and installed about 30 squares of GAF Natural Shadow shingles in Charcoal with white drip edge, plus ice and water barrier, synthetic underlayment, new step and counter flashing, and 10 turtle vents.

Wind roof replacement in Orem: a hidden second layer
When the crew tore off this Orem roof after wind damage, they found more than one layer of old shingles. The extra layer and the vents were documented and added to the scope. One slope already had newer GAF Timberline HDZ® shingles, so it stayed. The rest got Timberline HDZ® in Pewter Gray, white drip edge and 10 turtle vents, with new OSB decking where needed.
